Jim McArthur The New Club St Andrews

The new President brings a depth of experience and wealth of knowledge to the role
derived from many years involvement in the game of golf.

Jim started playing golf in Glasgow in the early 1960’s at Lethamhill Golf Course which was
one of the seven public courses operated by Glasgow City Council. He then joined
a private club Mount Ellen (now defunct) in the mid 1960’s and when work took
him to Edinburgh he joined Dalmahoy in 1972. In 1979 work then took him to
Dundee and he moved house to St Andrews where he still lives now.

Jim is a past captain, club champion and life member of The New Golf Club St Andrews. He
was a founding member of the St Andrews Links Junior Golfing Association
(SALGA) introducing the game to many local children and encouraging their
development. A former Chairman of the R&A Championship Committee and Deputy
Chairman of the General Committee, he was also Captain of Crail Golfing Society
2018-2020. Jim has represented both the Lothians and Fife and has a current
handicap index of 3.0

He hopes to use his experience, knowledge and contacts to benefit amateur golf in Fife and
particularly to develop young talent from all areas of the Kingdom.
