The 2024 Fife Golf Team Championship took place on Saturday, 4th May at Cowdenbeath GC. Although the sun didn’t shine, playing conditions were favourable, and the quality of the scoring reflected that. The suitable condition of the course also played its part, and thanks are given to Fife Trust for their efforts on that front.

Those out earlier in the draw seemed to fare better and, despite a valiant effort from the Thornton players, the Evening Post Trophy headed back east for the first time in a good few years.

Spearheaded by a superb 65 from David Mitchell, it was The New Club of St Andrews who lifted the trophy, 120 years on from winning it the first time it was played, in 1904. David was supported by Freddie Lawrence (69), Jim Woods (70) and Colin Edgar (75), and their total of 279 was seven shots too good.

Runners-up, Thornton, Martin Buchan (71), Stuart McGaulley (70), Liam Mitchell (72), Stevie Swan (73).

3rd Place, Ladybank, Mike Smith (69), Jimmy Mullen (71), Kevin Leitch (74), Allan Ferguson (76).

David Mitchell was the best individual score with his 65. Charlie Gillespie (St Andrews) was next best with 67 and Ryan Walsh (Kirkcaldy) was 68.

We now look forward to the Junior version in a couple of weeks at Balbirnie Park.
