Busy Weekend

It has been a busy weekend for Fife Golf.

On Friday the final of the Fife Senior Matchplay Championship took place over Ladybank GC. In a game of very few mistakes it was the ever consistent Jim Woods (New Club) who came out on top, beating Lundin’s David Imrie by 5&3. Woods had also won the Senior Strokeplay division earlier in the year and was a member of the New Club team that prevailed in the Fife Team Championship event at Cowdenbeath GC in May.

Jim then headed to Braehead on Sunday as part of the FGA 8-man team that retained the Midland Team Shield, for the third year running. It’s no mean feat to see off teams from Angus, Clackmannan and Perth & Kinross on such a regular basis. On this occasion Jim was ably supported by team Captain Derek Paton, Kevin Blyth, Robbie McEwan, Ryan White, Paul Tulleth, Ross McDonald and Dave Patterson. The team is pictured without Paul Tulleth.

As the Gents were going about their business at Braehead, along at Scoonie the Fife Junior Matchplay Championship was in its ultimate stage. Having seen off the New Club’s Cameron McDonald in the semi-final, it was Fraser Blyth (Lundin GC) who mirrored Jim’s exploits by adding the Matchplay to the Strokeplay title he had gained earlier. The beaten finalist was Alan Cunningham of Scotscraig and the other semi finalist was Oliver Band (Lundin GC)

We now look forward to the Mixed Foursomes Championship which takes place at Lundin Ladies on Sunday, 1st September and a new 9 hole Senior Event at Lochore Meadows on Thursday, 19th September, both of which can be entered via the Scottish Golf App.
